Protect Baby From the Heat With These Health Tips

Spending summer with baby is so nice. To help them discover the outside world very gently and see them marvel at the beauties of nature are moments to cherish for any parent. However, as the summer season comes with heat waves, it is essential to remember the safety rules to follow inside your home, as well as outside, to prevent your baby from experiencing heat stroke.
Here are some key tips to protect baby this summer:
Thermometer: add a thermometer to help monitor your baby's room. We recommend keeping the nursery between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. Sleeping in an overheated room can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Our motion monitors with video AC337 and AC527 have a digital color-changing temperature indicator on the infant unit, as well as a display, and an ambient temperature alert on the parent unit. Handy when a heat wave shows up in the weather forecast!
Refreshment: give your young child a bath or a sponge bath, with lukewarm water. Do not use cold water or ice in the bath. You can also use a spray bottle filled with water to keep your little one cool. If you are using a fan, arrange it to circulate ambient air instead of directing ventilation directly at your child. As with any electrical appliance in your home, make sure your baby cannot touch it to avoid injury.
Hydration: babies and toddlers being unable to communicate their thirst, it is still important to make them drink frequently. Children under 6 months of age will be able to drink the milk they are usually offered, while children 6 months of age and older can drink good quality water in small quantities between their milk drinks. To improve baby's comfort during drinking in hot weather, you can place a small towel or muslin blanket between you and him. If your baby wets between 6 and 8 diapers in a 24 hour period, it is because he is well hydrated. For older siblings, give them water during the day and remind them to drink it frequently. Children are so busy playing that they don't always think about drinking!
Clothing: choose baby clothes that are both covering and light. These can be made from cotton or another material with natural fibers, which let the skin breathe and are comfortable in summer. The wide-brimmed hat is also a must.
Cars: never, never, leave babies, children and pets alone in a car. Heat stroke can occur quickly, as the temperature inside an automobile rises within 5 minutes of closing the car. Lowering the windows is not a solution, as it only allows a very slight decrease in temperature. In order to keep baby cool, never cover the car seat, as this creates a thermos effect. Instead, favor the sun visors on the windows, light clothing and offer them drinks regularly.
Stroller: again here, instead of covering the stroller with a blanket, use a small umbrella on it. If possible, also remove the back panel. The body of a baby warming up 3 to 5 times faster than an adult’s one, it is important to promote the comfort of baby in order to enjoy a great family outing!
By following these health tips to protect baby from the heat, you are putting all the chances on your side to keep your child happy and comfortable in his environment!
