When my baby, aged 13 months moves around in her cot, towards the sides or corners the alarm sounds off. I have set the sensitivity to level 1 and it still goes off. Is my AC faulty?

Asked by: Annika
Hello Annika, Thank you for your question. In order to verify if all 4 corners of the crib mattress are being picked up by the Sensor Pad, we would recommend performing the 4 Corner Test. The 4 Corner Test is a great way to ensure your Angelcare Movement Sensor Pad is at the correct sensitivity level for your baby's mattress. To explain, Angelcare Movement Monitors do not monitor your baby’s breathing or heart. Angelcare Movement Monitors monitor your baby’s actual movements/vibrations on the surface of their mattress. Step 1: checking the alarm The first step applies if you are unsure whether your monitor is alarming or not. Skip to Step 3 if you know for certain that your alarm is working. Set the sensitivity of your monitor to the lowest setting. Ensure the Sensor Pad is placed in the middle (centre) of baby's sleeping area. Switch on all units (Nursery and Parent) and step away from the cot. After 20 seconds an alarm should sound to indicate that no movement has been detected. If the alarm does not sound, ensure everything is setup correctly and try again; check battery levels on all units, follow the manual etc. If the the alarm continues to fail to sound you may check for external movements in your environment: A large load driving past causing vibration trains, planes and cars etc. Movement from inside the nursery/sleeping area fans during hot weather, mobile above baby's cot People walking past/through the sleeping area even more so in homes with wooden floors Sleeping next to the Moses Basket/Travel Cot movement from adult in bed can be registered by the Sensor Pad, even when asleep If the alarm continues not ringing please contact our customer service for further assistance. Step 2: setting up for baby Now we know the alarm is working, set the sensitivity level on your monitor (through the Parent Unit) to the mid-way point. This can be level 2 or 3 depending upon your model. Remember, refer to your product manual if you're unsure on how to adjust this setting. Step 3: the four corner test Place (or check that) the Movement Sensor Pad is in the middle (centre) of baby's sleeping area - where ever baby lies/is placed in the cot Switch the Nursery/Camera & Parent Unit ON Gently place your hand in the furthest corner of the mattress & and wait for 20 seconds If the movement alarm does not sound after 20 seconds do continue with the following and repeat in the remaining corners Remove your hand from the mattress and step away from the cot The Movement Sensor Pad is sensitive enough to detect your movement if you are touching the cot After 20 seconds a series of continuous beeps (The Main Alarm) will sound from the Nursery/Camera Unit & Parent Unit. Just a note - with some models you may hear one beep after 15 seconds - this is normal and known as the Rouse Alarm, designed to make baby stir if inactive for 15 seconds before the main alarm sounds at 20 seconds Place your hand on the mattress and after a few seconds the alarm will cease as the Sensor Pad will have detected your movement If the alarm sounds when you place your hand for 20 seconds in any of the corners adjust the sensitivity by turning it up a single level and repeat the 4 Corner Test If the alarm does not sound when you step away from the cot reduce the sensitivity down a single level and repeat the 4 Corner Test. Keep adjusting the level until the alarm sounds ensuring that movement is still detected in all four corners Try the new setting over the next couple of nights and remember, when movement is not detected the monitor will alarm, when movement is detected, the monitor will not alarm. If you continue to have issues with your sensor pad, please contact our Angelcare distributor for South Africa: South Africa GroBaby P.O.Box 196 Ferndale, 2160 +27(0)11 791 6309 [email protected] www.angelcare-monitor.co.za

Hi, do you need a special mattress to use the Angelcare AC701 unit? I have been given the unit as a gift and am about to purchase a cot and mattress but wondering if I need a certain mattress. Also, can it be used in a bassinet? Thanks

Asked by: Brooke_c_22
Thank you for contacting Angelcare Monitors Angelcare Breathing Monitors are designed to monitor the movements of your baby over the surface of your baby’s mattress, from corner to corner. They can be used in a standard cot/cot bed. The Sensor Pad is placed under the mattress in the middle, wherever baby lies. It detects your baby’s movements and therefore you must take into consideration the thickness of the mattress and also the amount of layers your baby is wearing when put to bed. Too many layers and/or a thick mattress could affect the Sensor Pad’s ability to monitor your baby effectively. However there is no actual minimum/maximum thickness. This is because the sensitivity of the Sensor Pad can be adjusted to suit most different sleeping arrangements/mattresses. With regards to the actual mattresses, we know that the Sensor Pad will work effectively with a standard hypoallergenic, spring, coir (and spring/coir combined) mattress as these allow your baby’s movements to be transferred down on to the pad. We also know that the Sensor Pad will NOT work with a Hollow Framed, Dual Sided, Memory Foam Mattress; A Hollow Framed Mattress is mainly a US product, it is basically a number of poles that are fitted together with a tight cover fitted over this. As a result of their being nothing actually inside the mattress (hollow) no movement is transferred down to the Sensor Pad. As a result the monitor may false alarm indicating that baby`s movements are not being detected by the Sensor Pad. A full Memory Foam or Dual sided Memory Foam Mattress masks the movement of your baby on the surface of the mattress due to the density of the foam and baby`s movements do not transfer down to the Sensor Pad. As a result the monitor may false alarm indicating that baby`s movement is not being detected by the Sensor Pad. We hope that you can understand that unfortunately it is not possible to test the Sensor Pad with every type or brand of mattress available on the market due firstly to the sheer volume of mattresses available. Secondly because we do know that many manufacturers, brands will change the internal composition on a regular basis with no notification to improve the product and also at times for cost reasons. As a result it would be impossible to monitor constant internal changes/modifications and therefore we cannot recommend any particular brand for use with the Sensor Pad. Therefore we would suggest when purchasing any mattress for your baby that you take the above points into consideration and if you are unsure of the internal composition of any mattress to contact the retailer/manufacturer for clarification. We do hope that this information helps, if you need any further advice please do let us know.

I loved this monitor for my baby, purchased 11/2016, and used it till after a year; however I just plugged it in for baby number 2 on the way and the unit will not turn on, the green light is off, but the nightlight is flickering on the child unit. Help?

Asked by: Anna Kat
Thank you for contacting the helpline. We are sorry that you are experiencing this with your monitor. From the information provided it seems that Parent Unit batteries are dead. Did you charged the Parent Unit before turning ON your monitor? We also recommend replacing the batteries every 6 months. It might be the time for baby 2 to get a new set. We hope this will resolve your issue. Don't hesitate to contact us for more informations.
